Education at Elisha House and within our community.
Learning is one of the 5 ways to Well-being and is integrated into daily life at Elisha House. The Elisha Academy recognises this learning and provides opportunities for residents to access education as they work on their recovery, access activities and become involved in volunteering.
The methodology of this style of education is tailored to meet the needs of neurodivergent learners as representation of Neurodiversity within the recovery community is much higher than it is in the general population.
Some of our pathways are only available to residents of Elisha House and others can be accessed, via referral, by members of the wider community. You can find out more about our pathways below.
We use AQA unit awards to recognise learning and aim to help participants gain practical skills that they can use for the rest of their lives. This may involve pursuing more formal education in their chosen field or pursuing employment opportunities straight away!
The Academy is developing, with the needs of its learners informing what we offer. We welcome partnerships with other organisations and hope to expand our offer greatly, meeting many unmet needs within our local community.
If you are interested in learning with Elisha Academy, please get in touch with Breaking Cycles CIC or Elisha House and complete the learner registration form and survey about Neurodiversity and your experiences of education.
Pathways
Ride Leader Course
Our ride Leader course consists of 5 units and was the first pathway of the Academy. This pathway has proven successful as it has helped participants to; improve their wellbeing, provide access to cycling activities within the Elisha House community and gain further training and employment as a cycling instructor.
This pathway is the legacy of our ‘Road to Recovery’ project, which was funded by Sport England’s Tackling Inequalities Fund via the Canal & River Trust.
Café Volunteering
Volunteers at the Elisha Community Café have access to the Academy as they learn new skills, reconnect with skills they already have and develop confidence in all aspects of Café work.
This pathway is available for members of the Elisha House Community and externally referred volunteers. If you would like to make a referral, please use this link to our referral form.
Gardening Volunteering
The Elisha Community Gardening project provides an invaluable service to members of the local community, supporting people with maintaining their gardens, restoring green spaces back to a manageable and usable state and connecting with members of the community.
This pathway is available for members of the Elisha House Community.
Bike Maintenance Volunteering
Volunteers who want to learn about Bike Maintenance can access sessions at Pendle Yes Hub, where we support the Active Cycles project by restoring bikes, which have been donated or saved from landfill, back to a roadworthy condition.
This pathway can be accessed via referral. If you would like to make a referral, please use this link to our referral form.
