Community Cycling Projects

Breaking Cycles CIC is keen to develop a range of community cycling projects and activities to support the growth of cycling as both a sustainable means of transport and a leisure activity in the Ribble Valley and surrounding areas.

We are currently running in the following projects:

  • The Bike library currently provides access to Bicycles, support, advice and training in order to encourage cycling for transport. The Library Offers
  • We would also like to offer its members access to the following types of bikes with sponsorship from local companies.
    • Children’s bikes [one off sponsorship of around £300 per bike]
    • eBikes [one off sponsorship of around £3000 per bike]
    • Mountain Bikes [one off sponsorship of around £1500 per bike]
    • Gravel Bikes [one off sponsorship of around £1500 per bike]
    • Road Bikes [one off sponsorship of around £1500 per bike]
  • We intend to build up a resource of other equipment too. This would include the following items and more…
    • Racing wheels
    • High powered MTB lights
    • Bike bags & Boxes
    • Child trailers
    • ‘tag along’ bikes
    • A range of child seats
  • Harwes Farm Sustainable MTB trail building: This project involves using MTB adventure therapy session that are centred around trail building with young people, to promote confidence and a sense of pride. The project setup, supported by The Alpkit Foundation has provided both Breaking Cycles CIC and Harwes Farm CIC with a great opportunity to communicate our shared values of sustainability and personal development with vulnerable young people.

We are looking for support, including funding with the following projects

  • The development of a range of family friendly cycling routes around the Ribble Valley area
  • ‘Family rides’ A regular, subsidised led ride that focuses on supporting families who want to cycle together. This will involve sharing safe riding strategies and advice about equipment. [We need a subscription of £50 per session to make this happen. would you or your organisation be interested in making this happen?]
  • ‘Join the Club’ A regular, subsidised led ride that helps provide access to cycling clubs by teaching the etiquette and group riding skills that allow cycling clubs to ride safely in groups. [We need a subscription of £50 per session to make this happen. would you or your organisation be interested in making this happen?]
  • ‘One for the road’ A regular, subsidised led ride that focuses on men’s mental health by providing a safe space to talk and/or get involved in activity that actively improves mental and physical well-being. [We need a subscription of £50 per session to make this happen. would you or your organisation be interested in making this happen?]
  • ‘You can have your cake…’ A regular subsidised ride that addresses obesity through exercise and lifestyle changes. [We need a subscription of £50 per session to make this happen. would you or your organisation be interested in making this happen?]
